Early summer truly has a unique appeal in Istria. Pleasant weather is a given, so you can be sure to have a perfect vacation time. It’s only up to you to pick your favourite activities. So, what to do in early summer? Here are 7 suggestions!

1. Sports & fun activities

A true athlete? Just a person who likes to spend time out in the open, be it jogging, walking or cycling? Istria is just amazing this time of year for all sorts of outdoor activities! And moderate summer temperatures allow you to fully engage in them and enjoy every step of the way.

2. Premium wine

Widely recognized for its wine, Istria is the native land to three sorts: teran, muscat and malvasia. Where to find them? At one of the many Istrian wineries. Set in stunning scenery, they are charming places for all wine lovers.

Curious about the MUST-visit wineries? One of the greatest and largest Istrian wineries is definitely the recently renovated Tomaz winery in Motovun. Just a few villages away, you can also stop by one of the oldest ones in Istria – Winery Rossi. In addition, it has added a distillery in recent years, so you can try some of the best Istrian spirits!

But that’s not all! Kozlović, Matošević, Kabola, Cattunar are globally known for their exquisite wines so it would be a shame not to visit. Should you be interested in sampling biodynamic wines, Piquentum is the place to go.

One way or the other – you’ll be delighted, and if you’d like to continue enjoying wine at your villa – you can get a private sommelier!

3. Top fine-dining restaurants

No compromise when it comes to gastronomy. Only the best for you!

From restaurants listed in the renowned Michelin guide to charming, private places, you can delight in some of the best local dishes. Indeed, Istria is the place for exceptional Mediterranean cuisine. And more than that – with Istrian traditional gastronomy. There’s a slight difference, but you will just have to try and see.

So, head to Veranda on the Sea in Rovinj to eat exceptionally well while enjoying a spectacular view. Go on a captivating culinary journey at Stara škola in Krasica near Buje. Or have an authentic experience at the newly opened restaurant Miramare by Fratelli Cerea on the island of Sv. Nikola.

The gourmet A list also includes Agli Amici, Monte, Cap Aureo, Meneghetti to name just a few.

4. Prize-winning olive oil

Istria is one of the smallest regions in the world when it comes to top notch olive oil, with a total of 23 types of olives grown in Istria. Don’t believe us? Check out the Flos Olei guide.

Why is that so? The climate. Istria simply has the perfect conditions for growing olives.

And know that in Istria, just like with restaurants, it’s hard to find a bad olive oil, but it’s a sin not to visit some of the best manufacturers. So, set off along the olive oil roads in Istria and stop by Sinožić, Al Torcio , Chiavalon, Negri, Ipša, Mate. You can’t miss. 5. Exciting events

Music, sports, street art, delicious food… you name it, Istria’s got it.

Musical events? Piano poolA is a series of concerts presenting famous pianists in Pula from April to July. You can also Tear it Up in Medulin at the end of May at a rockabilly festival.

If food is your thing, don’t miss Park Food Fest on June 8-9 in Novigrad. Another must-see gastro event is the Hook & Cook festival in Medulin in late June.

6. Magical inland

Step into the alluring world of the Istrian countryside and explore one of the most picturesque towns in the world – Motovun. It is a small hilltop town in the heart of Istria that will take your breath away. It’s surrounded by small villages where you can discover secret gastro jewels in traditional restaurants called konoba.

Motovun has that magical spirit – it reflects Istria in every possible way, hiding all the treasures that the interior of the peninsula has. Just to get a taste of it, we can arrange truffle tasting, since Motovun, together with Buzet, is widely known for the delicious gourmet treat.

7. History and natural attractions

Discover just how rich Istrian heritage is – both cultural-historical and natural. From archaeological sites, Roman legacy and medieval castles to the Glagolitic Lane, the peninsula has quite a fascinating story to tell. Absolute must-see sights for all fans of history and culture include the Roman amphitheater Arena in Pula, Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč (UNESCO World Heritage site), Church of Saint Euphemia in Rovinj, Morosini-Grimani Castle in Svetvinčenat, and more.
